Finding Eketahuna in the Tararua District
Many tourists chose the rugged beauty of the Tararua district for a road trip by car, camper or bike. Tararua is very centrally located and a unique East Coast experience making it popular for road travellers as they journey New Zealand.
State Highway 2 is the main route through the Tararua region. Travel north from Wellington or south from Hawke's Bay to come to Tararua on State Highway 2.
Coming from State Highway 1, travel east from Palmerston North City on State Highway 3 towards Woodville via the Saddle Road or along the Pahiatua Track via the Pahiatua Aokautere Road towards Mangamarie (The Manawatu Gorge road is closed due to a slip).
Eketahuna is situated on State Highway 2 between Pahiatua and Masterton, it is a small rural town that can be easily indicated by the giant kiwi that sits on the side of the road as you enter Eketahuna from either side on State Highway 2.
The Tararua district is serviced by Palmerston North Airport just 30 minutes from Woodville. The domestic airlines, Air New Zealand, Jetstar and Origin Air all have regular flights in and out of Palmerston North.
